Ingredients
- 20 sheets phyllo pastry
- 300 g walnuts
- 200 g butter
- 200 g sugar
- 300 ml water
- 200 ml honey
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 0.5 tsp cardamom
- 2 whole clove
Instructions
- Finely chop walnuts, mix with cinnamon and cardamom
- Melt butter and brush into 9x13 baking pan
- Layer phyllo sheets one at a time, brushing each with melted butter
- After 10 sheets, spread thin layer of nut mixture
- Add 2 more phyllo sheets with butter between
- Spread remaining nuts, then top with remaining phyllo sheets, buttering each
- Score top into triangular or diamond shapes without cutting all the way through
- Bake at 160°C for 40-45 minutes until golden brown
- Make syrup: combine sugar, water, and cloves, simmer 10 minutes, add honey
- Pour hot syrup over hot baklava immediately after removing from oven
