Bulgogi (Korean Marinated Beef)

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs beef sirloin
  • 0.5 cup soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • 3 tbsp sesame oil
  • 6 cloves garlic
  • 1 inch ginger
  • 1 whole onion
  • 0.5 whole pear
  • 3 stalks scallions
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 1 package lettuce
  • 2 cups rice

Instructions

  1. Partially freeze beef for easier slicing
  2. Slice beef very thin (1/8 inch)
  3. Mince garlic and ginger
  4. Grate pear
  5. Slice onion thinly
  6. Mix soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and pear
  7. Add beef, onion, and sliced scallions to marinade
  8. Marinate for at least 2 hours (or overnight)
  9. Heat grill or cast iron skillet to high heat
  10. Grill beef in batches for 2-3 minutes per side
  11. Serve with lettuce wraps, rice, and sesame seeds
  12. Optionally serve with gochujang or ssamjang sauce
