Canh Chua Ca (Vietnamese Sour Fish Soup)

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs fish fillets
  • 2 quarts fish broth
  • 3 whole tomato
  • 1 cup pineapple
  • 3 tbsp fish sauce
  • 2 tbsp lime juice
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 2 whole shallots
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 0.25 bunch dill
  • 2 stalks scallions
  • 8 oz okra
  • 1 tbsp tamarind paste

Instructions

  1. Cut tomato into quarters
  2. Cut pineapple into chunks
  3. Slice shallots and mince garlic
  4. Slice okra into rings
  5. Cut fish fillets into chunks
  6. Heat broth in large pot
  7. Add shallots and garlic, simmer for 5 minutes
  8. Add tomato and pineapple, simmer for 10 minutes
  9. Add tamarind paste, fish sauce, and lime juice
  10. Add okra and simmer for 5 minutes
  11. Add fish and simmer until cooked (4-5 minutes)
  12. Season with sugar if needed
  13. Garnish with fresh dill and scallions
  14. Serve hot
