Kokum Curry (Sour Curry)

Ingredients
- 8-10 kokum pieces
- 2 cups thick coconut milk
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 1 tbsp coconut oil
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 0.5 tsp cumin seeds
- 0.5 tsp turmeric powder
- 1-2 green chilies, slit
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp sugar
- 8-10 curry leaves
- Water as needed
Instructions
- Soak kokum in 0.5 cup hot water for 10-15 minutes, extract juice and discard pulp
- Heat coconut oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and let splutter
- Add cumin and curry leaves, fry briefly
- Add onion and sauté till soft
- Add green chilies and turmeric powder
- Add extracted kokum juice and 1 cup water
- Bring to boil and simmer for 5 minutes
- Add coconut milk slowly, stirring gently
- Add salt and sugar
- Simmer on low for 5 more minutes without boiling
- Serve hot with steamed rice
