Ingredients
- 1 cup urad dal
- 1-2 tbsp rice flour, optional
- 1 tsp finely chopped ginger
- 1-2 green chilli, finely chopped
- Few curry leaves, chopped
- 0.5 tsp black pepper
- 0.5 tsp cumin
- Salt to taste
- Oil for deep frying
Instructions
- Wash and soak urad dal 3-4 hours
- Grind with very little water to thick, fluffy batter
- Add salt, ginger, chilli, curry leaves, pepper, cumin and rice flour
- Mix well
- Heat oil on medium
- Wet hand, take ball of batter, make hole in center (vada shape)
- Slide gently into oil, fry until golden and crisp, turning occasionally
- Drain on paper
- Serve hot with coconut chutney and sambar/rasam
