Roti (Chapati)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 0.75 cup warm water

Instructions

  1. Mix flour and salt in a bowl
  2. Add oil and rub into flour
  3. Add water gradually, mix and knead into soft, smooth dough
  4. Knead 5-7 minutes until elastic
  5. Cover and rest 15-30 minutes
  6. Divide into 8 equal balls
  7. Dust with flour and roll into thin circle (6-7 inch)
  8. Heat tawa/griddle on medium-high until hot
  9. Place roti on hot tawa, let it cook 20-30 seconds
  10. Flip and cook other side until brown spots appear
  11. Flip again and use cloth to press edges so it puffs
  12. Remove and serve hot with curry or dal
  13. Optional: brush with ghee or butter
