Sundubu Jjigae (Soft Tofu Stew)

Ingredients

  • 2 packages soft tofu
  • 8 oz beef or seafood
  • 0.5 whole onion
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 2 tbsp gochugaru
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp fish sauce
  • 2 cups vegetable broth
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 stalks scallions
  • 1 whole egg
  • 0.5 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Slice onion and mince garlic
  2. Heat sesame oil in stone bowl or pot
  3. Sauté garlic and onion for 1 minute
  4. Add gochugaru and cook 1 minute
  5. Add broth and bring to boil
  6. Add beef or seafood and cook until done
  7. Add soy sauce and fish sauce
  8. Gently add soft tofu by breaking into large pieces
  9. Simmer for 3-4 minutes
  10. Make well in center, crack egg into it
  11. Let egg cook for 1-2 minutes
  12. Slice scallions
  13. Serve in stone bowl
  14. Garnish with scallions and salt
