Ingredients
- 8 medium Apples (Granny Smith)
- 100 g Butter
- 100 g Sugar
- 320 g Puff pastry
- 2 tbsp Lemon juice
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Peel, halve, and core apples.
- In 10-inch cast iron or oven-safe skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
- Add sugar and cook until melted (do not stir, let it caramelize).
- Arrange apple halves cut-side down in caramel, packing tightly.
- Continue cooking for 10-15 minutes until apples soften and caramel darkens slightly.
- Squeeze lemon juice over apples.
- Roll out puff pastry to about 1/8 inch thickness.
- Cut circle slightly larger than skillet.
- Gently place pastry over apples, tucking edges down into pan.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until pastry is golden brown.
- Cool for 5 minutes, then carefully invert onto serving plate (caramel drips over pastry).
- Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
